I’ve been writing short stories non-professionally for about four years now. Recently, however, I’ve found it very difficult to turn off my internal editor. As you can imagine, this is having an ill effect on my creativity, so much to the point where it’s hard for me to finish even the shortest story.

My question to you: is there any method or technique you use or know of that silences the internal editor long enough to get the first draft of your story done?

I like to write short stories and novels, and the only problem I ever have is how to start it off. How are you supposed to start off a novel properly, so it grabs the reader in and it isn’t boring?
