How do I improve my writing skills on the job. I have to write letters, reports and such in a short time?
EternalLove asked:
I just landed a job with a prestigious organisation as an executive assistant. I am very excited, however, I am scared and very self conscious about my business writing abilities.

Most businesses use pattern letters. They are forms that you just fill in the specific details and address. You can buy a book of the most common ones at any bookstore. Good luck with your new job.

The technique I use whenever I am such a situation is to think at my reader’s level when composing my letters.
(In your situation) think “Am I corresponding with a Legal Attorney, a Supplier to the firm, or another Associate within the agency?” – Aim to compose your style to the reader’s level.
Also, to sharpen your grammatical finesse, READ BUSINESS JOURNALS.
And join a Toastmasters club.
Toastmasters International is an International organization whose primary objective is to improve communication and interpersonal skills so as to make effective communication a worldwide reality.

Use spell checker–a lot. You misspelled organization.
There are a lot of books available on writing letters. I suggest you head to a bookstore to check them out. Maybe “Writing Letters for Dummies.” I need that one. I never know what to write or how to start.
I have a couple of books on letter writing and it has sample letters. You should get one and keep it in your desk. Read it at home but keep it at the office for quick reference. If there is a template saved on your computer, that would be great for you!
