Writers: How do you start off a novel?

????? m?? asked:

I like to write short stories and novels, and the only problem I ever have is how to start it off. How are you supposed to start off a novel properly, so it grabs the reader in and it isn’t boring?

Thanks!
To cathrl69: This isn’t like asking about how sprinters run fast. I’m asking how you’re supposed to start off a novel, without it seeming stupid or boring, okay? I’m wondering how to begin a story so it’s interesting. So f*ck off.

Question for writers: How to silence the annoying internal editor?

rayrayras asked:

I’ve been writing short stories non-professionally for about four years now. Recently, however, I’ve found it very difficult to turn off my internal editor. As you can imagine, this is having an ill effect on my creativity, so much to the point where it’s hard for me to finish even the shortest story.

My question to you: is there any method or technique you use or know of that silences the internal editor long enough to get the first draft of your story done?

Please and thank you for the help.

What are some magazines that accept writing submissions from teens to publish?

~The Pandagal~ asked:

Since I’m very interested in writing and i think I pretty good at it (not trying to brag), I am looking for a few magazines that i can send submissions in for a chance of publication.

I write book reviews, short stories, and even some poetry.

It would also be preferred if it was a paying magazine but that isn’t the most important thing. Also, you can suggest a website as long as it is credible and pretty well known.

Thanks a lot guys!! :)

I’m going to develop a website where writers can post their work, such as poems, short stories, technical documents, etc., and others can comment on them. If you were using this site, what features would you like in it? What sort of functionality should it have? What would be important to you?

Thanks. :)
